A library in the making!

Shreeju and Bernice with the Principal and Vice-Principal discussing the library.

Need to restore this if possible.
A couple of months ago when the idea of a library for the school was discussed I had only thought maybe we would have a few shelves and a few books for the children. And how that has changed! I am so thankful to everybody that has been collecting books and has donated them. We are still very much looking for anybody travelling to Nepal that might have space for a few children’s books in their luggage. Book by book we are building up a collection. We are looking for used books that are basic English, nothing too difficult for them to read. Shreeju, has with the help of her friend and Bernice and Joses started with the numbering and organizing of the books. She hopes to give each child a library card when we have it set up. If anybody would like to donate a few dollars to help her with purchasing the cards and making a numbering system for the books, it would be such a blessing. We are very much dependent on small donations as we do not ask any fees from the volunteers or use any of the donations for our overheads. The school has three cabinets that can lock that we are able to use. I have added a picture. As you can see these cabinets are not in very good shape. If there is anybody in Kathmandu that has a cabinet in their house that they do not use or of if there are any carpenters that can help us renovate these cabinets, do email me at watersfromheaven@gmail.com. I am so excited that the children will have the opportunity to read books and share the fairy tales and stories children all over the world reads. Thank you to everybody for making this dream become a bigger reality than what I had dreamt it could be.

Identified at last.

School identified!

The entrance.
Not many of you know, but up until recently the school did not have a name board. If you entered the area it would not be identified as a school, until you see the children running around. But I am really happy that a board has been placed at the entrance and it can be known as a place where learning is taking place. Let this be a new beginning a time of birth. Let this not be a school anymore where time has stood still.

A New Day

I read this beautiful poem today written by Praveen this morning and wanted to share it with everyone.

This is the beginning of a new day.
I have been given this day to use as I will.

I can waste it, or use it.
I can make it a day long to be remembered for its joy,
its beauty and its achievements,
or it can be filled with pettiness.

What I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it.
When tomorrow comes this day will be gone forever,
but I shall hold something which I have traded for it.

It may be no more than a memory,
but if it is a worthy one I shall not regret the price.

I want it to be gain not loss, good not evil, success not failure.

How many days do we let go by without even registering it. When I was a child and I guess for many of you it was the same. The days were so long and every day was an experience, good or bad. Our days did not feel like it just was another day of working, looking at the sunshine from our workplace wishing we could enjoy its rays. I do feel that life is so fast pace and is racing by me and all of us. I must be at that age now when I look at my life and look at the future and say, “What do I want to give back to the world? How can I make even just a small change?” But I have also realized that with trying to juggle everything in my life I do lose sight of the important things around me, I lose those precious moments. But trying too not wander too much off the topic, why I was originally starting to write the post today. As in my heading this is a story of a school that has changed and is changing my life, without them even knowing the journey I am on. Where this journey goes nobody knows.

I am hoping that with bringing the reading program to school as well as the art that we could give the children a day that they can remember. A day that they can cherish, and with dreaming and expression give them days to enjoy. To not let their school days go by as just another day, easily forgotten.

As you might have read in my previous posts we are slowly starting to build a library for the school. If anybody is travelling that way, please do let us know if you have space for a few books. You might feel that 2-3 books is not enough, but 2-3 books added to another 2-3 books makes it 6 books. I have been writing companies looking for posters for the school, but without too much success. Most companies do have organizations that they are already sponsoring.  I would love to give the school some biology, science, geography and educational posters to use as teaching aids. If anybody has any contacts do let me know. It can be used or slightly damaged. The school has also requested some mathematical calculators. If I can collect a few they could rotate them in the classroom as now they not have any available. If you might have some lying in your drawer that you are not using, please send it our way. We had supplied them with 50 math sets, but if anybody has any of those it would be great too.

Thank you for reading and hopefully our roads would cross someday who knows?
